Ballyhoorisky Point - Just when the days start getting longer

At last, a clear evening after work, in March, where we can get into our classic "after-work" rotation, in order to preserve what little amount of sanity is still ours at the end of winter...

Just felt like walking along the coast today, even more so as the evening skies were particularly clear, and Ballyhoorisky Point, at the western top of the Fanad peninsula, has to be one of the nicest spots to enjoy a seaside sunset. Then again as people around these parts will be quick to tell you, the skies are always clear above Fanad, so why pass the opportunity?

One note of warning though: because it's another after-work walk, I'm gonna keep the views all to myself, which means no pictures. Besides, it was quite late, so photos wouldn't have done justice to the place anyway.

But with the days finally getting longer, it is definitely nice to be able to go back to our after-work schedule again, even if the amount of time we can spend walking has to be shortened somewhat. Can't wait for the shift into summer mode that's going to take place around April, where, all of a sudden, evenings start to take a completely different dimension. I don't think people living south of 52.5°N latitude quite grasp how different springs/summers in these northern parts are, compared to further south, and especially the ones we have at 55°N, with the super-long evenings and stunning midnight sunsets. I for one certainly hadn't imagined that the difference would be so striking before moving here. And of course, as a hillwalker, I wouldn't change it for the world, even with the flip side of the coin that are the shorter days in winter.

Not gonna comment much on this walk either. The waves were mostly what I was looking for and my contemplative mood got satisfied with what it got at the point. Also picked some good sights of Tory Island's cliffs in the fading light, which is always a plus, and with a drive back where the first stars appeared, we're not even going to complain that there weren't any seals to be found in the creek today. Besides, it's not like seals around these parts are anything but elusive in the first place anyway...

Would I use this otherwise well crafted track simply because it contain the lyrics: "Just when the days start getting longer"? Watch me!
